Col de Guery, a sensational drive

Col de Guery is a mountain pass at an elevation of 1.268m (4,160ft) above the sea level, located in the Puy-de-Dôme department in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in central France.

The road to the pass is totally paved. It’s called Route départementale 983 (D983). It’s pretty scenic with superb views. The summit hosts a big parking lot. Above the pass gleams Lac de Guéry, the highest lake in the Auvergne at 1268m.

The pass is 21.6 km long, running from Randanne (on N-89) to Mont-Dore, a small village. The road is steep, hitting a 8.8% through some of the ramps. The pass has been featured In the Tour of France race.
