Driving the challenging Defile du Lancone in Corsica

Where is Défilé du Lancone?

Dug by the Bevinco river, the gorges, also known as Bevinco gorges, are located in the Haute-Corse department on the northern part of the island of Corsica, near the town of Bastia. The gorges separate the Massif de la Stella to the south from Monte Pinzali to the north.

Can you drive through Défilé du Lancone?

The road through the gorges is entirely paved. It’s called D62 road. It was the first road to connect the villages of Nebbiu to the coast of greater Bastia. It’s a road steeped in sometimes dramatic history, built in difficult conditions on the mountainside up to a steep rock on the edge of a precipice. It’s a rally stage for its extreme scenery and its suspended rocks, with narrow and winding parts.

The road is 8.5 km (5.28 miles) long, running west-east from Col de Santo Stefano to Casatorra.
