Is Route de Maronne difficult?
Set high in the French Alps, the road is fully paved but extremely narrow. It can be very scary if you meet another vehicle. It has dangerous drop offs unprotected by guardrails. If you're afraid of heights, it's probably best to keep your eyes forward because some sections of the road could be difficult to navigate. The drive is very scenic running across La Foret De Maronne forest. Located to the north of Le Bourg-d'Oisans, the road is extremely steep, hitting a 20% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps.
How long is Route de Maronne?
Tucked away on the southeastern part of the country, the road is 4.5 km (2.79 miles) long, and runs south-north from Combe de la Fayolle to Le Rosay via 8 sharp hairpin turns. Short term closures are common in winter due to dangerous weather conditions.
