An old military road to Fort de Dormillouse
Fort de Dormillouse is a military fortress at an elevation of 2.480m (8,136ft) above the sea level, located in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of France.
Set high in the Ubaye valley, the fortress was built between 1884 and 1886. The road to the fortress is an old military track. It’s totally unpaved. This road is usually impassable from late October through late June or early July (depending on snow).
The road to the summit is brutally steep. Starting at Le Lauzet-Ubaye, the ascent is 9.8 km (6.08 miles) long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 1.572 meters. The average gradient is 16.04%. The summit hosts a restaurant.
