Take the Scenic Route and Discover Mount Kionia
Kionia is a mountain peak at an elevation of 1.419m (4,655ft) above the sea level, located in the Nicosia District of Cyprus.
How long is the road to Kionia?
Set high in the Troodos mountain range, the road to the summit is totally paved but pretty narrow. Starting at Machairas Monastery, the road is 6.7km (4.16 miles) long. There’s a fire lookout tower with a radar installation at the summit and you won’t be able to get to the very top of the mountain as the last 2.5km (1.55 miles) of the road are closed to private vehicles. The area is guarded with barbed wire fences and taking photographs is restricted in their vicinity.
Is the road to Kionia worth it?
Located in the western part of the country, the drive to the summit, also known as Macheiras, offers stunning views and the vistas overlooking the mountain are indescribable. It’s the fourth tallest peak in Cyprus.
