The refuge is situated near the border with Carinthia, in the southern part of Austria, next to the crystal-clear Laserzsee lake.

Is the Road to Karlsbader Hütte Unpaved?

The road to the refuge includes both paved and unpaved sections. It’s called Dolomitenstraße. This route is extremely steep, with a maximum gradient of 18% on certain ramps. "Immense" is probably the right word to describe this challenging climb.

How Long is the Road to Karlsbader Hütte?

The road to the hut stretches 12.5km (7.76 miles), starting from Bad Jungbrunn. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 1,582 meters, with an average gradient of 11.83%.

Can I Drive to Karlsbader Hütte?

The final 3.1 km are unpaved and closed to motor vehicles, making it accessible only by mountain bike. Set high in the heart of the Lienz Dolomites, the road becomes impassable during the winter months.
