Vallnord, a 5 stars road in the Pyrenees
Vallnord is a ski resort at an elevation of 2.240m (7,349ft) above the sea level, located in the Pyrenees mountains, in the country of Andorra, in the parish of Ordino. It's one of the highest mountain roads of the country.
The resort encompasses Pal, Arinsal and Ordino-Arcalis ski sectors. The road to the summit is paved. It’s called CS 420/Carretera de la Caubella. The resort has been climbed by the Tour de France and Vuelta a España bicycle race.
Starting from Ordino, the ascent is 18 km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 943 meters. The average percentage is 5.2 %. The maximum slope is 12% in El Serrat. As you approach the 5km mark, the road passes through a tunnel, emerging to reveal a massive car park for the ski season.
