The brutally steep road to Coll Blanc
Coll Blanc is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 2.542m (8,339ft) above the sea level, located in the Encamp parish of Andorra, near the border with France.
Set high in the Pyrenees mountains, in the Grau Roig sector of the Grandvalira ski resort, the road to the summit is totally unpaved. Accessibility is largely limited to the summer season. It is not generally snow-free until late June or even July in some years. The road is closed to private vehicles. 4x4 vehicle required.
It’s one of the highest roads of the country. The drive is pretty steep, hitting an 18.2% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. Starting at the paved Port d'Envalira, the ascent is 1.4 km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 131 meters. The average percentage is 9.35%.
