Travel guide to the top of Pezinská Baba
Pezinská Baba is a mountain pass at an elevation of 532m (1,745ft) above the sea level, located in the Bratislava Region of western Slovakia.
The road to the summit is asphalted. This road is an excellent choice for organisers of car reviews and other kinds of promotions. It’s called 503 and links the villages of Pernek and Pezinok. It’s a winding but fast mountain road known for its smooth turns, which allow drivers to take their vehicles to the limit. The road regularly claims victims, especially motorcycle riders.
Set high in the Small Carpathians, at the summit there is a ski resort. It is the closest mountain road to the capital of Bratislava. This makes it very popular with amateur racers from Slovakia's most populous city and those of nearby countries. The road is used for the European Championships of Vintage Cars - a regular contest organised by the Slovak National Automotive Association. The road is a popular venue for mountain speed runs and other motoring competitions and test runs. The racing drivers usually have to tackle 19 challenging turns over a distance of 5.1km.
The views are breathtaking. Starting from Pernek the ascent is 6.3km long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 271m. The average gradient is 4.30%. And starting from Pezinok the ascent is 11.8km long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 355 m. The average gradient is 3.04%.
