Travel guide to the top of Midžor

Midžor is an international high mountain peak at an elevation of 2.142m (7,027ft) above the sea level, on the border of Bulgaria and Serbia.

Set high in the Balkan Mountains, in the center of Serbian Stara Planina, a rough 4x4 road climbs up to the ridge in between Midzhur-Midžor and Oba summits. It’s very steep and dirty. This road is very hard to be passed even with well equipped SUV and it is very dangerous. Expect dense fog often.

The pass links Vidin Province (Northwestern Bulgaria) and Zaječar District (Eastern Serbia). At the summit you can find a border stone between those two countries.

The road to the summit is very steep, hitting a 21% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. Starting at the paved 222 road in Serbia, the ascent is 9.9 km (6.15 miles) long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 743 meters. The average gradient is 7.5%.
