An abandoned road through Dobroselicki Prerast cave
Dobroselički Prerast is located on the slopes of Zlatibor Mountain in the municipality of Čajetina, Serbia. It is a large through-cave that is difficult to find, situated a few hundred meters off Road 23 at the northern edge of the village Dobroselica. A map or reliable navigation is essential, as there are no signs for the cave or the nearby villages. It’s one of the few roads in the world that runs through a cave.
What is the Size of the Cave?
The cave is 48 meters long and 12 meters wide, making it one of the six largest stone bridges in Serbia. The upper entrance has an altitude of 12 meters, while the exit is 16 meters high. The cave itself is quite large, but its natural bridge has been abandoned.
How Was the Road Through the Cave Used?
A road was once built through the cave, but it has been abandoned for a long time. Today, the road has been moved and now passes over a nearby hill. The former road path can still be seen, with weathering and rockfall having blocked the path. There is now a footpath where the road once was. On one side, the road makes a sharp turn and ends on the other side.
Why is Dobroselički Prerast Cave Important?
The Dobroselički Prerast cave is one of the largest stone bridges in Serbia and is considered rare in nature. It attracts tourists, especially mountain climbers, and is recognized for its scientific importance.
How Difficult is it to Reach the Cave?
The cave is located in a remote area, and while it is close to the main road, it is hard to find due to the lack of signage. The turnoff to the cave is nondescript, and without proper guidance or a map, it can be challenging to locate.
