Pereval Mukhinskiy, a steep remote road only for experienced drivers
Pereval Mukhinskiy is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 3.148m (10,328ft) above the sea level, located in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, in Russia.
Set amongst the Caucasus Mountains near the Georgian border within the Teberda Nature Reserve, the road to the summit is unpaved and very steep. It’s an old mining road. At the summit you can feel the lack of oxygen in the rarefied air.
It’s one of the highest mountain roads of Europe. 4x4 vehicle with high clearance required. It’s usually impassable from October to June. Starting from the A155 Road near Teberda, the ascent is 17km long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 1.810 meters. The average gradient is 10.64% with a 20% of maximum slope.
