Rarau Peak is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 1.633m (5,357ft) above the sea level, located in Suceava County, in the southern portion of the historical region of Bukovina in Romania.
Set high in the Rarau massif, the road to the summit is totally unpaved. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended. At this elevation it’s the highest peak of the range. The summit hosts communication facilities (Statia de Televiziune Rarau).
Tucked away on the north-eastern part of the country, the drive offers stunning views. At the summit, an impressive panorama opens on the city of Campulung Moldovenesc and the valley of the Moldova river. The road to the summit is very steep, hitting a 12% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. Starting at the paved TransRarau ‘The Treasures’ Road’, the ascent is 1.8km (1.11 miles) long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 136 meters. The average gradient is 7.55%.
