Tartarau Pass is a drive worth taking
Pasul Tărtărău is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 1.718m (5,636ft) above the sea level, located on the boundary of Alba, Vâlcea and Sibiu counties. It’s the highest paved road in Romania.
Tucked away in the Parâng Mountains group, in the Southern Carpathians of Romania, the road to the summit is called Transalpina or DN67C. It’s paved and it’s one of the hardest roads in the eastern part of Europe. The road is closed during the cold months of the year.
To reach the summit, starting from Lacul (lake) Oasa, the ascent is 10.8 km long. Over this distance, the average percentage is 4.2 %, hitting an 8,9% through some of the ramps.
