Morskie Oko
Morskie Oko (Eye of the Sea) is a high mountain large lake at an elevation of 1.411m (4,629ft) above the sea level, located in the Tatra Mountains, in southern Poland.
The road to the lake is paved in asphalt. Located near the border between Poland and Slovakia within the Tatra National Park, the road is surrounded by lush green mountains, waterfalls and alpine forests. At the lake there is a mountain shelter which serves food and beverages.
The road does get busier at weekends and in the main holiday season. The last 1.6 km are closed to motor vehicles (on a parking lot). At the top, you’re rewarded with a beautiful view of a lake surrounded by mountains. The road is dangerous in winters: avalanche danger zone.
