Road trip guide: Conquering Śnieżne Kotły
Śnieżne Kotły (Snowy Pits in English) is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 1.486m (4,875ft) above the sea level, located on the Polish-Czech border.
Located in the Sudetes mountain range, within the Krkonoše National Park, the road to the summit is gravel, with potholes. 4x4 vehicle required. Weather conditions can change quickly and be harsh. Road closures can be frequent. At the summit there’s a radio television mast.
The summit is shrouded in fog or cloud for more than half of the year. The track is totally impassable in winters. Snow covers the ground until at least April. The road is difficult and it’s a nightmare in the wet or dark (or both). Altitude and extreme weather are always a factor at any time of year.
