Where is Karaula Zastan?

The former barrack, also known as Zaston Koliba, is located in the southeastern part of the country, near the Albanian border. The military barrack is used today as a shelter from storms, and it is located near the start of the trail to Maja Jezercë, a mountain peak at an elevation of 2,694m above sea level.

Is the Road to Karaula Zastan Unpaved?

The road to the hut is totally unpaved. It’s an old military road called GU-03. 4x4 vehicles only. The final 1km is very challenging, with very narrow parts.

How Long is the Road to Karaula Zastan?

Set high in the Prokletije Mountains, the drive is pretty steep, hitting a maximum gradient of 18.9% through some of the ramps. Starting from Vusanje, the ascent is 6.5 km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 337 meters, with an average gradient of 5.18%.
