The Old Postal Tract is about 200 km (124 miles) long. It connects Kaunas with Daugavpils in Latvia and was originally part of the massive road connecting St. Petersburg with Warsaw. Along its route, you’ll encounter huge fortresses around Daugavpils, elegant squares and boulevards at Zarasai, and various historic buildings that once served as stations where messengers and traders would swap horses during long-distance runs.

Officially known as A6 from Kaunas to Daugavpils, the Old Postal Tract is fully paved, though its condition may vary in certain sections. It was the first road in the country to be surfaced in 1836.
