Ultimate 4wd destination: Ushba peak in the Caucasus
Ushba is a high mountain peak located in the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region of western Georgia. An access road southeast of the peak climbs up to 3.137m (10,291ft) above the sea level. It’s one of the highest roads of Europe.
Set high in the Caucasus Mountains the road to Ushba plateau is totally unpaved. This road is usually impassable from late October through late June or early July (depending on snow). The open and close dates all depend on snowmelt and snowfall each year. It’s one of the highest roads of Georgia.
Located near Mestia, the dirt road crosses the Koruldi Lakes. Well-equipped 4X4 off-road vehicles only. The drive surrounded by glaciers and peaks offers stunning views.
The road is extremely steep. Starting at Seti square, the elevation gain is 1.700 meters. The weather in the area is highly unpredictable.
