The reservoir was constructed between 1964 and 1969 on the Ostravice River's upper course, primarily for drinking water supply and flood protection.

Once in Bílá, you have the option to continue on to Slovenský Makov or head to Velké Karlovice. The road here is well-maintained and passes through a picturesque valley dotted with villages.
