A beautiful and harrowing road to Eaglehawk Lookout
Eaglehawk Lookout is a small lookout at an elevation of 351m (1,151ft) above the sea level, located on the Tasman Peninsula in southeastern Tasmania. Be sure to have high clearance and four-wheel-drive.
Perched high above Eaglehawk Neck and Pirates Bay, the road to the scenic spot is totally unpaved. It’s called Plateau Road. The windy track is rather rough featuring deep potholes and very narrow sections. A 4 wheel drive with good clearance is a must. The drive offers amazing views of the stunning coastline below.
Located within the Tasman National Park, the road to the lookout is 8.1 km (5.03 miles) long starting at Arthur Highway. The road is pretty steep, hitting a 15.2% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps.
