Old Woman Range

Old Woman Range is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 1.739m (5,705ft) above the sea level, located in the Otago region of New Zealand. It’s one of the highest roads of the country.

Old Woman Range

Located in the Kopuwai Conservation Area, the gravel road to the summit is bumped. It’s an old gold mining track. Restricted access. Open in summer during dry conditions only. 4wd vehicle required. After rain, even a single rainfall, conditions of the road can be challenging.

The zone is affected by adverse weather. But even in the summer the conditions can quickly turn nasty. The ride is rather remote, so you need to be prepared. No mobile phone coverage so you will be on your own in the middle of nowhere if you get stuck. Never drive this trail alone. Vehicles are rare here. At the summit there’s a mountain hut, with spectacular panoramic views of the Central Otago landscapes.
