A wild mountain road to Karakyr Pass
Pereval Karakyr is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4.043m (13,264ft) above sea level, located in the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan. It’s one of the highest roads in the country.
Where is Karakyr Pass?
The pass is located in the Tian Shan mountains, on the eastern part of the country, near the borders of Kazakhstan and China.
Is Karakyr Pass unpaved?
The road to the summit is called A364. It’s unpaved but in good condition. However, a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. The road is suitable to ride without any major problems and with any vehicle. There are daily heavy transports on the road for the fleet of machines.
How long is Karakyr Pass?
The pass is 98.2 km (61 miles) long, running south-north from Enilchek to Ak-Bulun. In winter, the road is usually impassable due to heavy snowfalls.
