A Once in a Lifetime Drive through Koi-Jol Pass

Pereval Koi-Jol is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 3,823 meters (12,542 feet) above sea level, located in the Batken Region of Kyrgyzstan.

Is Koi-Jol Pass unpaved?

Set high in the southwestern part of the country, the road through the summit is entirely unpaved, with compact gravel and dirt and a smaller amount of washboards. A 4x4 vehicle is required to complete the drive.

Is Koi-Jol Pass open?

The road is impassable in winter due to snow. The road might be impassable in parts due to multiple river crossings. After the snow melts, these crossings can become too deep to traverse. The western part has a short 5 km section of broken road, making the valley non-traversable for vehicles. The eastern part is a narrow path.

How long is Koi-Jol Pass?

The pass is about 86 km (53 miles) long, running south-north from Daroot-Korgon to Austan.
