Ultimate 4wd destination: Lokomotiv Peak
Pik Lokomotiv is a high mountain peak located in the Talğar District of Almaty Region in Kazakhstan.
Set high in the Zailisky Alatau mountain range, in the Greater Caucasus, a gravel road tops out at 3.397m (11,145ft) above the sea level, on the way to the summit. The road is usually impassable from late September through late June or early July (depending on snow).
Located in the upper part of the Medeu Valley, the road to the summit is brutally steep, hitting a 16% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. Starting at Shymbulak Ski Resort, the largest such resort in Central Asia, the ascent is 8.6 km (5.34 miles) long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 1.110 meters. The average gradient is 12.9%.
