Lachulung La: enjoy a drive among the clouds
Lachulung La is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 5.059m (16,598ft) above sea level, located on the boundary between Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh (Jammu and Kashmir) in India.
Is the road through Lachulung La paved?
The road through the summit, also known as Lāchālūng La or Lungalacha La, is the iconic Leh-Manali highway. The road has been improved in recent years. Currently, it’s mostly paved. The road is visible from the narrow gap of the Lachulung Lungpa. While crossing the pass, the tourist buses and taxis take a halt here most of the times, to let the tourists admire the local natural beauty of the surrounding mountains.
Is Lachulung La open in winter?
Set high in the Himalayas, it is open for only about four and a half months in a year in summer between May or June. The pass is located 54 km (34 mi) from Sarchu and 24 km (15 mi) from Pang. It is one of the favorite passes amongst the hikers as well as trekkers.
