The wild road to Pensi La in India
Pensi Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4,494m (14,744ft) above sea level located in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, in India.
Where is Pensi La?
The pass, also known as Penzi La, links the Suru Valley region and the Zanskar Valley region. It is said to be the gateway to Zanskar.
How long is Pensi La?
The road through the summit was recently paved. The pass is 150 km (93 miles) long, running north-south from Panikhar to Phe. The road is usually open between May and October only.
Is Pensi La worth it?
The drive offers stunning views of the Suru River valley, glacial lakes, and the Drang Drung Glacier. Near the summit, there’s a blue lake known as Statso/Langtso Lake.
