Medo La: a new military road on the Chinese-Indian border
Medo La is an international high mountain pass at an elevation of 5.915m (19,406ft) above the sea level, located on the border of China and India. It’s one of the world's highest motorable roads.
The road to the summit is a decently good black-topped road, totally unpaved. Purely military. 4x4 vehicles only. The climb is simply terrible, with a notorius lack of oxygen that tests the organisms and a high degree of steepness. The climb requires a military authorization very difficult to obtain (even for a national) because it is located in a totally isolated area near the Indian border.
The road was finished in 2021. It’s located on the border between the Sikkim state in northeastern India and the Kamba County, in the Tibet Autonomous Region. It’s one of the highest roads of the country.
