The road to Murgum La is not for the faint of heart
Murgum La is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4.397m (14,425ft) above the sea level, located in the Leh district of Ladakh, India.
Tucked away in the Zanskar range, the road to the summit, also known as Margum La, Marugam La, Murugan La, Nietukse La, is totally unpaved. It was built in 2019 and improved in summer of 2020. Always check the weather forecast before you start your journey: adverse conditions are common. This road is treacherous with lots of water streams and hairpin turns.
Located in the Zanskar valley, the pass road is 90km (55,92 miles) long, running from Sumda Dho to Lingshed. The road will be extended by 52 kms towards Dipling. If you do choose this route please check up to date information. 4x4 vehicle required.
