Can you drive through Niti Pass?
Due to its location, connecting Uttarakhand, a state in the northern part of India, and southern Tibet, an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China, the pass is closed to private vehicles post-1962 war, and you need permission from SDM, Joshimath. This trail passes through remote areas, so you need to be prepared: mobile phones do not work there.
Is the road to Niti Pass paved?
Set high in Niti Valley, the road to the summit is mostly paved. 4x4 vehicle required.
Is Niti Pass open?
During the winter season, between November and mid-May, it remains covered with snow.
How long is the road to Niti Pass?
Tucked away in the Nanda Devi National Park, the road to the summit is very steep (hitting a 15% maximum gradient) and features countless hairpin turns. Starting at Daba Township, the road is 50.3 km (31.25 miles) long.
