The Road to Nampa La in Tibet Is Not an Easy One

Nampa La is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 5,460m (17,913ft) above sea level, located on the border of Doilungdêqên District and Qüxü County, Lhasa Prefecture, Tibet.

Where is Nampa La?

The pass is located a few kilometers from Lhasa, to the east of the impressive Kanggar Tzoxe La, in the southern part of China.

Is the road to Nampa La unpaved?

Set high near Kabicuo Lake, the road through the pass is entirely unpaved. It’s not an easy drive, as the road is washed out in some parts. Don’t even think about driving it without a reliable GPS, as the road is difficult to find. A 4x4 vehicle with high clearance is required.

Where does the road to Nampa La start and end?

The road through the pass runs north-south, from Nalongnang to Jiebucang.
