Driving the wild 4x4 road to Tsurphu La in Tibet
Tsurphu La is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 5,302 m (17,395 ft) above sea level, located in Lhasa City in the Tibet Autonomous Region, China.

Where is Tsurphu La?
The pass is located northeast of Lhasa, in the southern part of the country, on the boundary between Damxung County and Doilungdêqên District. On the way to the summit, it’s possible to discover the stunning Tsurphu Monastery. Located at about 4,300 metres (14,100 ft) above sea level, it is the seat of the Karmapa branch of the Kagyupa order of Tibetan Buddhism.
Is the road to Tsurphu La unpaved?
The road to the summit is extremely challenging. It’s completely unpaved, with loose rocks in parts. It has plenty of turns, narrow sections, and steep inclines. A 4x4 vehicle with high clearance is required.
How long is the road to Tsurphu La?
The road to the summit is about 33.4 km (20.75 miles) long, starting from the paved G6 Road near Gurum.
