The road to the summit is completely unpaved and challenging, featuring narrow sections, steep parts, and countless turns, including 41 hairpin turns.
How Long is the Road Through Pen La?
The pass is 27.6 km (17.14 miles) long, running south to north from Dotang to Biwu. If your ideal road trip involves getting far off the beaten track, then this is the drive for you. However, this road is usually impassable from late October through late June or early July due to snow.
