Khung La: Only Experienced Drivers with Advanced Off Road Skills
Khung La is an international high mountain pass at an elevation of 5.425m (17,798ft) above the sea level, located on the border of China and Nepal.
Where is Khung La?
Set high in the Himalaya mountain range, the pass links Drongpa County of Shigatse Prefecture in China's Tibet Autonomous Region. Located in the western part of Central Tibet and Dolpa District in the Karnali Zone of north-western Nepal.
Can you drive through Khung La?
The road to the summit is totally unpaved and very defiant. 4x4 vehicles only. The pass is 78.8 km (48.96 miles) long running south-north from Nisalgaon (Nepal) to Jiazhu (China). At this elevation oxygen levels drop and visitors need to take adequate precautions against AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). This road is seasonally impassable in winters.
