How To Travel The Road from Ka'erza to Yinkecun
Located on the boundary between Garzê and Sichuan, in China, the road from Ka'erza to Yinkecun is a very challenging experience.
Tucked away within the Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, the road is mostly paved and navigable by all passenger vehicles in dry weather. It’s 38.8km (24,10 miles) long, running from Ka'erza (Danba County, Garzê) to Yinkecun (Dawu County, Sichuan).
The road is very steep, hitting a 12% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. It tops out at 4.367m (14,327ft) above the sea level. Remember this is a mountainous area, climbing up a high mountain, with a notorius absence of oxygen. Altitude and extreme weather are always a factor.
