Lunkar La is a winding road only for experienced drivers
Lunkar La is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 5.390 m (17,683ft) above the sea level, located in Zhongba County of Xigazê Prefecture in China's Tibet Autonomous Region.
Set high in western Tibet, within the Lunkar mountain range, the road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called Drongto tso-Ang Laren Tso road. It is a pretty challenging drive, with countless hairpin turns.
It’s a steep drive, hitting a 6% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. A 4x4 vehicle is required, due a few river crossings. During times of rain, the river will often flood, causing the route to be unpassable.
