An Unforgettable Road to Götse La
Gõtse La (Gray Head Pass) is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4.628m (15,183ft) above the sea level, located in Dêgê County, in Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in far northwestern Sichuan province, China.
The road to the summit, also known as Gose La, is totally unpaved. It runs east-west from Babangxiang to Xuegacun. When the snow falls - which it does in the winter – things get tough and slippery. Always check the weather forecast before you start your journey: adverse conditions are common. 4x4 vehicle recommended. Facilities like electricity, medical aid, hot running water, western toilets etc. are rare to find. The road to the summit is very steep. It’s a track on the way to Palpung Monastery.
