A very bumpy, grueling road to Yamtse La
Yamtse La is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4.685m (15,370ft) above the sea level, located in Kangmar County of Xigazê in the Tibet Autonomous Region, bordering India's Sikkim state to the south.
The road to the summit is a remote dusty track. 4x4 vehicle required. When the snow falls - which it does in the winter – things get tough and slippery. Facilities like electricity, medical aid, hot running water, western toilets etc. are rare to find. Starting at Chumba Yumco, a high mountain lake with turquoise waters, the road to the summit is 4.34 km (2.70 mi) long. It’s mostly flat.
