Ode La, a drive you'll never forget
Ode La is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4.468m (14,658ft) above the sea level, located in Banbar County of the Chamdo Prefecture in the Tibet Autonomous Region, China.
The road to the summit is the challenging 303 Provincial Road which runs entirely over the 4.200m above the sea level. The road is mostly asphalted with a few unpaved sections. It’s 709 km long and climbs many mountain passes. The surface of the road is in very poor conditions and includes countless hairpin turns. It’s very steep and the drive is surrounded by snowy mountains. The road is often underwater and severely damaged by rain and landslides and can be closed anytime. Along the road there are several muddy, rough surfaced unlit tunnels to traverse–dripping water. Speeding trucks only add to the terror. The pass is 28.7 km long, running west-east from Zhongyixiang towards Xobando
