Simi La is an absolute must for road lovers
Simi La is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4.364m (14,317ft) above the sea level, located in Gyantse County, in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
The road to the summit is paved. It’s called 307 Provincial Road (S307). Remember this is a mountainous area, climbing up a high mountain. Altitude and extreme weather are always a factor. The pass is 34.3 km (21.31) miles long running west-east from Nianduixiang to Longmaxiang. The road offers stunning views of Simi La Tso, a high mountain reservoir with a nice-looking turquoise color, from sediments of glacial waters. It’s said to be one of the most beautiful lakes of Tibet. The pass is unique due to the presence of countless colorful Tibetan flags decorating the rock faces (more than others).
