Driving the rough 4x4 trail through Wadi an Nakhur in Oman
Wadi an Nakhur is a very scenic canyon located in northeastern Oman. It’s said to be the deepest canyon in the Middle East.
Where is Wadi an Nakhur?
The canyon is located north of Al Hamra town. It is sometimes also referred to as Wadi Ghul.
Is the road through Wadi an Nakhur unpaved?
The canyon is accessed from the road ascending Jebel Shams and turning right near the village of modern Ghul. The road is totally unpaved, often loose, especially along the sides of the road. After 7 km, the road ends at the village of An Nakhur.
Do I need a 4x4 vehicle to drive hrough Wadi an Nakhur?
The rough track requires a 4WD vehicle with high clearance. The loose gravel of the wadi floor makes the driving unsuitable for non 4x4s. This route is not suitable for normal cars. The road, which is just a dirt track, is very bumpy and rough.
