Is the road to Jabal Sabir paved?
Set high in the southwestern part of the country, in the Yemeni highlands, the road to the summit, also known as Jabal Saber, is fully paved but quite challenging, with 55 sharp hairpin turns. It is called 412 Road (or Saber Road). The climb is steep in parts, reaching a 15% maximum gradient through some of the ramps.
How long is Jabal Sabir?
The pass is 44.2 km (27.46 miles) long, running from Taiz, the third-largest city in Yemen, to Ad Dimnah.
Can I drive to Yemen?
Avoid all travel to Yemen due to ongoing armed conflict, terrorist attacks, and kidnappings. Despite truce agreements, the security situation remains highly unstable due to the civil war that started in 2014. Armed groups are particularly active in the south. The humanitarian situation is dire, with millions displaced and essential services such as food, water, medical supplies, and power distribution severely disrupted. Hospitals and other critical infrastructure are heavily damaged, and there is a fuel shortage.
If you are in Yemen, leave if it is safe. If you choose to stay:
- Seek safe shelter and remain there until you can leave safely.
- Maintain emergency provisions.
- Exercise extreme caution and be aware of your surroundings.
- Keep travel documents up-to-date.
- Monitor local and international media for updates.
