Why Croatia Is A Great Place For A Road Trip

Road trips are amazing things and if you love the thrill of the open road and just going where the map (or perhaps sat nav!) takes you then you might already have tried a lot of different destinations and visited a lot of places. The fact is that it can feel as though you’re running out of ideas when you’ve already driven around a lot of wonderful destinations, but the world is a big place, and there’s always more to see.

Why Croatia Is A Great Place For A Road Trip

One such place is Croatia. Although it might not seem like the first place to choose for a great road trip that you’ll never forget, the fact is that there’s a lot to do and see in Croatia, and choosing it for your next big adventure could be the ideal option. With that in mind, read on to find out why Croatia is a great place for a road trip.

Diverse Landscapes

Croatia is a stunning place and one thing it has in abundance is scenery – there’s lots of it and it’s massively diverse, which means that if you’re looking for beauty and unique landscapes, driving through Croatia could definitely be a good choice for you. From the gorgeous waters of the Adriatic Sea to the stunning mountains of the Dinaric Alps, Croatia might be small, but it’s got a lot to offer.

You can start your journey by driving along the amazing coastline that’s like nowhere else on earth, and along the way you’ll find some great towns like Dubrovnik, which has medieval walls to enjoy, or Split, which is where there are UNESCO-listed attractions like the Diocletian’s Palace. Then, as you go further inland, you’ll come across forests, waterfalls, lakes, and even national parks like the Plitvice Lakes National Park.

Scenic Roads

As you might have guessed from what we’ve said above, Croatia is a great place to pick because it’s just so beautiful, but what makes it ideal for road trips specifically as opposed to just a standard vacation (although you can definitely do that as well) is the fact that the roads seem to be built for road trips.

Not only do they take you through some of the most beautiful scenery around, but they’re also very well-maintained, which makes driving in Croatia a joy, and much easier than it is in other countries with unpleasant roads and boring scenery. You’ll be able to really take in what’s around you when you go to Croatia because the driving is easy and the traffic is minimal – of course, you’ll still need to be careful and obey the rules of the road, but it is easier to do that in Croatia than in many other places.

Lots To Do

Even if you love driving and you’ve chosen to go on a road trip in Croatia, the fact is that you can’t (and won’t want to) drive all the time. The point of a road trip is that it takes you from one adventure to the next, and that it’s part of the adventure at the same time, but that means you need to find adventures between drives.

That’s an easy thing to do in Croatia because there’s so much to do. Depending on where you end up and what you want to do with your time, you could go on a walking tour of one of the most important towns, you could try wine tasting, you could do water sports, or you might even want to leave the car behind for a little while and try a Croatia yacht charter instead. Whatever it is you want to do, you’ll certainly be able to find something – and actually, many things when you start looking – that will suit your tastes and your budget, so you can definitely combine your road trip with some amazing adventures as well when you go to Croatia.

Great Food

When you’re traveling from place to place on a road trip, one thing is going to be the same no matter where you go – you’ll want to get something to eat. That’s not a problem in Croatia where the food is an amazing part of the culture, and no matter where you stop off for lunch or dinner, you’re sure to find something delicious to try.

One thing that Croatia is known for is its delicious seafood, so if you’re traveling along the coast, it would be a shame to miss out on local delicacies like grilled octopus, brudet (fish stew), or black risotto, for example, and a lot of these dishes can be found at small cafes or even roadside street food stalls. If you’re looking for something more filling and you want to visit a traditional restaurant, then you might want to try peka (slow-cooked meat and vegetables), kulen (spicy sausage), or cevapi (grilled mincemeat) – it’s all worth trying and expanding your palate while you’re traveling around.
