Travel guide to the top of Uitkyk Pass
Uitkyk Pass is a mountain pass at an elevation of 1.022m (3,353ft) above the sea level, located in Western Cape, in South Africa.
Tucked away in the heart of the Cederberg Wilderness Area, the road to the summit, also known as Cederberg Pass and Sederbergpas, is partly paved. The west side was paved all the way in late 2019 but east of the summit remains a gravel road.
The pass is 137km (85 miles) long, running from Clanwilliam, in the Olifants River valley to Die Dorp Op Die Berg. It’s pretty steep in parts, hitting a 12% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. The road, with some drop offs, offers endless vistas of the unique Cederberg mountains. The area is renowned for its stunning landscapes and spectacular rock formations.
