A paved road to the summit of Ikhupe Pass
Ikhupe Pass (also known as Mkupe Pass) is a mountain pass at an elevation of 1.469m (4,820ft) above the sea level, located in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa.
The road to the summit is paved. It’s called National road N11. It’s the main road between Ladysmith in the South and Newcastle in the North. The experience of using this road is very impressive. The road's winding design, providing stunning panoramic views, is very curvy and fun for a leisurely ride. Technically, the modern version of the pass is a well engineered, safe road and only gains 84 meters in altitude, producing an average gradient of 1:18 with a maximum gradient of 1:13.
