Where is Fish River Canyon?

The canyon is located in the southern part of the country, near the border with South Africa. It is situated in the Namibian desert, in a remote and sparsely populated region.

Why is Fish River Canyon famous?

The canyon is one of the most impressive natural beauties in the southern part of Namibia. Fish River Canyon is considered one of the largest canyons on Earth. It is about 160 kilometers (100 miles) long (from Sesriem down to the Orange River), up to 27 kilometers (17 miles) wide, and approximately 550 meters (1,800 feet) deep. It’s said to be the second largest canyon worldwide after the Grand Canyon in the USA.

How long is the road to Fish River Canyon?

Located within the Richtersveld National Park, the road to the canyon is 57km (35 miles) long, starting from C10 road. The road is totally unpaved. 4x4 vehicle required. Nestled in the middle of the desert, the drive is pretty remote. There is no mobile phone reception in the canyon. The drive offers breathtaking views and dramatic landscapes.
