The road is mostly unpaved. It starts as a paved four-lane road, then narrows to two lanes, and quickly becomes a dirt road in good condition.
How challenging is C26 Road in Namibia?
The road is generally in good condition and easy to navigate, though at a low speed. However, it has rough sections in poor condition and features sweeping hills as well as high mountain passes. It climbs up to Gamsberg Pass at 1,867m (6,125ft) above sea level and tops out at 2,050m (6,725ft) by Kupferberg Pass. A 4x4 car is not essential, but an off-road vehicle with sufficient ground clearance is recommended.
How long is C26 Road in Namibia?
Located in the country’s central highlands, the road is 190km (118 miles) long. It runs from south-central Windhoek (the capital) to the C14 road near Oase. Along the way, take care with the unpredictable winds. Remember, the drive is quite remote, and while there are some rest camps, they are far from the road.
