A Winding Paved Road to Mokhoabong Pass

Mokhoabong Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 2,900m (9,514ft) above sea level, located in the Thaba-Tseka District of Lesotho. It's one of the highest roads in the country.

Is the Road to Mokhoabong Pass Paved?

The road to the summit is called A3 Road. It is mostly paved, except for a 100m stretch in an area shaded by steep mountain sides. In winter, water freezes on the road, damaging the asphalt.

How Long Is Mokhoabong Pass?

The pass is 47.4 km (29.45 miles) long, running west to east from Mantšonyane to Thaba-Tseka.

Is Mokhoabong Pass Dangerous in Winter?

Set high in the central part of Lesotho, the area experiences regular snowfalls. During cold conditions, ice on the road can make driving extremely dangerous.
