The pass is located in the western corner of the Mountain Kingdom, leading into the Makhaleng Valley.

Why is it Called Gates of Paradise Pass?

The pass is named after the beautiful views at the summit. It’s said to be one of the best views while driving through the real Africa. It is worth stopping to take pictures when you are at the top of the pass.

Is the Road Through Gates of Paradise Pass Unpaved?

The road through the summit is mostly unpaved. Expect a rough, slow, and bumpy drive. It’s an easy drive in 4x4 terms but not ideal for small vehicles. All the corners are gentle, but the gradients reach 1:5 near the summit and immediately after it.

How Long is Gates of Paradise Pass?

The road to the pass runs across beautiful scenery. It’s 26.5 km (16.46 miles) long, running west-east from Thabaneng to Phafoli.
