Ras Dashen is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4,277 meters (14,032 feet) above sea level, located in the North Gondar Zone of the Amhara Region, in Ethiopia. It’s one of the highest roads in Africa.

The pass, also known as Ras Dejen and Ras Dashan, is located in the northern part of the country, within the Simien Mountains National Park.
How Long is the Road Through Ras Dashen?
The road through the summit is unpaved and requires a 4x4 vehicle. The pass is about 33.4 km (20.75 miles) long, running from Chiro Leba to Dilibza (Dil Yibza).
Is the Road to Ras Dashen Open in Winter?
Located high in the Simien Mountains, the road to the summit is usually impassable in winter. It is often subjected to violent snowfalls during the night, making travel difficult.
